Joel Anthony M. Viado

A.B.'87 & L.L.B.'93
(University of the Philippines)

As one of the members of DRHV Law to have been connected at separate times with both the Legislative and Executive branches of the government, Atty. Viado has brought along with him a wealth of knowledge vital to clients doing or will do business with these bodies.

Atty. Viado was once with the staff and a confidant of the late Congressman Gerardo "Dinggoy" A. Roxas, Jr., younger brother of now Senator Mar Roxas. He later joined the Committee on Rules of the House of Representatives. His experience gained from his attendance of committee hearings and meetings and the preparation of draft bills in pursuance of the legislative agenda of then Congressman Roxas equipped him with an intimate perspective of the inner workings of the second branch of government. When he was with the Presidential Management Staff ["PMS"] of the Office of the President in Malacanang during the term of former President Joseph Estrada, and where he was privileged with having been tasked to review multi-million government contracts and render sensitive legal opinions, Atty. Viado was exposed to the processes involved in pursuing and implementing complex government projects.

Back In the private sector, Atty. Viado reinvented himself to become the quintessential Corporate Lawyer. Beginning as in-house counsel of realty holding and marketing companies, to corporations engaged in manufacturing and distribution, personnel and management consultancy, manpower placement and agency services, Atty. Viado bore responsibility for all legal concerns and requirements, within and outside the corporate offices, including the HR-related and administrative aspects of the business enterprises he previously served, but more importantly, for the key aspects of his erstwhile corporate employers' strategic issues, such as the structuring of national and international operations, manage improved relationships with an increasingly diversified workforce, oversee an enlarged liability exposure and having to interact with public decision-makers whose decisions bear on the business affairs of his employers-corporations.
