CHRISTOPHER
ALVIAR
Christopher
Alviar believes that his Filipino roots have helped him
succeed as a designer in the highly competitive world of
Microsoft Corp. He
cites pakikisama (camaraderie) as helping him to excel at
teamwork in the corporate environment.
He also believes that the innate Filipino
resourcefulness and creativity have contributed to his
ability to create award winning hardware designs for his
employer. “Informed
design” is what Chris calls his approach to his work.
Helen Andrade-Jimenez reported that Chris aims to
include several key elements in his design process:
ease of use, enhanced functionality and performance,
manufacturing feasibility, cost effectiveness, and aesthetic
appeal and fit (itmatters.com.ph)
Mrs.
Alviar must be proud of her son’s efforts which include
such youthful favorites as the Microsoft Easy Ball* and the
Microsoft Sidewinder Joystick and Sidewinder Dual Strike.
We’re betting though that she’s just as proud of
Chris’ efforts to support young Filipinos in their
schooling abroad. Chris
and other Filipino professionals have organized to
understand why young Filipinos fade out of U.S. colleges and
universities. They
then put up a program to help them stay the course.
