BETH MACDONALD
Not
McDonald, mAcdonald. No hamburgers here, Beth's mostly a
veggie lady. Originally a textile designer and engineer by
training, she's worked in consumer product development,
franchise marketing, textiles, apparel, and management and
technical consulting. Her focus is on consumer insight and
innovation.
Her
Asian experience includes 6 years as a Director of Research
and Development for Johnson & Johnson Consumer Products
Asia/Pacific and a stint as Regional Franchise Director for
Wound Care in Asia/Pacific. Before that she held product
development directorships in Oral Care, Sanitary Product and
Adult Incontinence in the U.S.A. She's worked on brands as
diverse as Band-Aid Brand Adhesive Bandages, Savlon,
Johnson's Baby Products, Stayfree, Serenity, Reach Oral Care…well,
just about every Johnson & Johnson consumer brand.
All
in all during almost 20 years of consumer product
experience, her constant focus has been understanding
consumers. She pioneered many techniques in consumer science
at Johnson & Johnson, using everything from statistical
experimental design to ethnography to psychological analysis
to gain insight into unarticulated consumer needs.
Before
Johnson & Johnson, she designed and developed textiles
for apparel and industrial uses and developed quality
systems for apparel working for Kaiser Roth and Gulf and
Western companies.
Her
list of accomplishments includes product patents;
recognition for her work with the Technical Association of
the Pulp and Paper Industry; Outstanding Achievement Awards
from the International Association of Nonwovens and
Disposables Association; Johnson & Johnson Awards for
Equality Opportunity and Worldwide Engineering; The
Visionary Award from the DuPont Company; and the AOTL Award
from Susan Van Vleet Consulting.
Writing
comes more easily than sketching. She's written for
consulting companies, industrial and scientific journals and
net sites. Her reputation is for quick, unceasing
creativity. She's a talented facilitator, drawing new ideas
and building consensus in culturally diverse teams. Her
studies of leadership at the University of Pennsylvania give
her an academic base but her practical experience in
corporations and trade organizations keep her grounded in
reality. Besides, if talking doesn't work, she can draw on a
repertoire of arts ranging from tai chi to tae kwon do to
ballroom dancing to get them moving!
